The 2021 Fish For Holly Sailfish Tournament saw its largest turnout yet. In its 3rd inaugural year, 266 anglers fishing on 63 boats went sailfishing on January 9th in honor of Holly’s memory.
The 2021 Fish For Holly Sailfish Tournament saw its largest turnout yet. In its 3rd inaugural year, 266 anglers fishing on 63 boats went sailfishing on January 9th in honor of Holly’s memory. With 63 sailfish releases, the conditions were perfect for a fun and enjoyable time out on the water in memory of a Florida Keys born and raised woman who lost her life to domestic violence in 2017.The day started off with some excitement, hooked up to the first call in of the day was Megan Simpson on the Olympic Gold withCapt. Doug Mientkiewicz at the helm. They took an early lead releasing a few more sails that morning. They held their lead to win top boat, with 6 releases. Megan Simpson, won Top Female angler and third overall angler with 3 of those releases.2nd place boat was awarded to the Top’d out with captain Travis Butters with 5 releases. And 3rd place boat Chasin’ Sails Capt.Vince Austin.HHH Boatworks Jr. Angler CJ Hinckley swept the individual angler competition. At just 10 years old, he released the most sailfish with 3 releases in time out of 266 anglers giving him the title, Grand Champion Angler for the overall angler division, Top Male angler, as well as top Junior Angler. He also caught the heaviest kingfish in the fun fish category weighing in at 29.5 lbs. CJ fished on his families’ HHH Boatworks vessel captained by Cap Hinckley.Junior angler Andy Cone on his father’s Brian Cone’s Contagious boat won 2nd place junior angler with 2 releases and Mackenzie Reizen on the Not Yet with 1 release got third place aunior angler.For the fun fish division, the heaviest Tuna weighing in at 23 pounds was caught by Betsy Bullard on the Back In Business withCapt. Robert Collins. Heaviest Mahi Mahi was awarded to Amie Smith on the ABSOLUT-LY weighing in at 7lbs, heaviest wahooweighed 37 pounds on the Kimbuktu, and heaviest Kingfish previously mentioned caught by champion junior angler CJ Hinckley weighing in at 29.5 lbs.A great time was certainly had by all. The Post Card Inn Resort and Marina was the perfect venue for this years events!! We want to thank all sponsors, donors, and participants involved for making this tournament the largest sailfish tournament in the Florida Keys. This tournament is operated by volunteers and 100% of the proceeds go towards re-building the Florida Keys Domestic Abuse Shelter, professional women’s scholarships, high school scholarships and Captain’s licenses.The Fish For Holly tournament took place this past Friday January 8 and Saturday January 9th.Holly’s family says, “We are grateful to the community for giving us this happy, positive way to remember her.”
